Venezuela: The biggest economic change in Venezuela occurred when oil was discovered in the early 1900's. The economy switched from focusing mainly on farming to oil production; this brought Venezuela great wealth and prosperity.

Brazil: When colonial powers arrived in Brazil they were very interested in Brazilwood (A valueable tree) This eventually branched out to Sugar production, and gold mining. Most of the work force were comprised of slaves brought from Africa.

Venezuela: One long term effect of colonialism in Venezuela would be the discovery of oil which was very good for the economy.

Brazil: The Portuguese left the a lasting impression on Brazil in language, and territory.

Venezuela: The Spanish wanted to keep colonial control over the region. Venezuela also offered a good strategic advantage.

Brazil: The main reason of colonialism in Brazil was for economic reasons. Brazilwood was the intial economic reason, but it intensified with the sugar and gold markets. Portugal also was trying to compete with Spain's colonies.


Was it right that Spain colonized Venezuela?

For Venezuelans it was not right. The Spanish drastically changed Venezula's Culture and to some people that is a bad thing. The Spanish modernized Venzuela, improved it's economy, and spread their influence farther thorughout the world.
